Anderson, Henry H. USA | Henry H. Anderson
served in the Civil war as a Pvt. in Co. H. 49th Ky. Inf. in 1863 and 1864.
Henry H. was born on May 6, 1842-44 to Robert Anderson and Keziah Sneed who were
married in Whitley County in Oct. 1831. Henry H. married Rebecca Hollen on Feb. 9,
1865 in Whitley County, Ky. They had the following children: Calvin S. (Coly)
Anderson, John Wade, Charles, William Henry, Robert Abraham, Samantha J., Nancy C..,
Manerva A., Merida M., and Harriet E. Henry H. Anderson is buried at the Upper
Mulberry Cemetary across from the Mulberry Church. Some of his descendants still
live in Whitley County, Ky and McCreary County Ky. today. He was my great-great-great

died 1931 in Clay Co, WV son of Thomas R. and Catharine HARMON. James enlisted at Camp
Dick Robinson 20 Aug 1861 in Co F, 7th Reg Ky Infantry Vols. He was injured 29 Dec
1862 in Chickasaw Bluffs, Mississippi from a bayonet being thrust in the left hand. He was
mustered out 3 Oct 1864. James drew a pension. He married his first wife,
Millia Richmond in Whitley Co, they had 2 children, divorced and he married 2nd wife,

LAWS, GARLAND | Garland Laws served with 8th KYVol. of the Union Army, from June 1, 1863 to Dec 17 1864 . His son, Caleb Laws stated they were from Whitley County before moving to Madison County. Garland, son of James Laws, was born Feb 29, 1843 and died on Jan 27 1919. He was married to Eliza Kirby. They both are buried in the Pilot Knob cemetery in Madison County. NOBLE, DANIEL USA | Rank and organization: Landsman, U.S. Navy. Born: 1840, Bath County, Ky. G.O. No.: 71, 15 January 1866. Citation: As landsman on board the U.S.S. Metacomet, Noble served among the boat's crew which went to the rescue of the U.S. Monitor Tecumseh when that vessel was struck by a torpedo in passing enemy forts in Mobile Bay, 5 August 1864. Noble braved the enemy fire which was said by the admiral to be "one of the most galling" he had ever seen and aided in rescuing from death 10 of the crew of the Tecumseh, thereby eliciting the admiration of both friend and foe. |

Oswego County, N.Y. Citation: Whereas it appears from official reports that Dr. Mary E.
Walker, a graduate of medicine, "has rendered valuable service to the Government. and
her efforts have been earnest and llntirin~ in avariety of ways," and that she was
assigned to duty and served as an assistant surgeon in charge of female prisoners at
Louisville, Ky., upon the recommendation of Major_Generals Sherman and Thomas, and
faithfully served as contract surgeon in the service of the United States, and has devoted
herself with much patriotic zeal to the sick and wounded soliders, both in the field and
hospitals, to the detriment of her own health, and has also endured hardships as a
prisoner of war four months in a Southern prison while acting as contract surgeon; and Whereas by reason of her not being a commissioned officer in the military service, a brevet or honorary rank cannot, under existing laws, be conferred upon her; and Whereas in the opinion of the President an honorable recognition of her services and sufferings should be made: It is ordered, That a testimonial thereof shall be hereby made and given to the said Dr. Mary E. Walker, and that the usual medal of honor for meritorious services be given her. Given under my hand in the city of Washington, D.C., this 11th day of November, A.D. 1865. (Medal rescinded 1917 along with 910 others, restored by President Carter 10 June 1977.) |

Rank and organization: Major, 4th Kentucky Cavalry. Place and date: Near Wetumpka, Ala., 13 April 1865. Entered service at: Kentucky. Birth: Kentucky. Date of issue: 9 April 1898. Citation: This officer, with a small detachment, while en route to destroy steamboats loaded with supplies for the enemy, was stopped by an unfordable river, but with 5 of his men swam the river, captured 2 leaky canoes, and ferried his men across. He then encountered and defeated the enemy, and on reaching Wetumpka found the steamers anchored in midstream. By a ruse obtained possession of a boat, with which he reached the steamers and demanded and received their surrender. |
